Unable to install office 2010 or Office 2007 Error : 1406 on Windows XP, Windows Vista > Windows 7 machine




Give permission to Following registry Keys:

Start > Run > regedit and navigate to 

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Components

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Components

How to give permission to the registry Key.

Right Click on the components Key >
Click on Advanced >
Click on Owner Tab >
Click on Administrator > Check the Box which Says “Replace Owner on Sub container and Objects “
Click on Apply > Click on Permission Tab > Click on Add   Type “Everyone” without quotes  > Check Names >  Check the box for “Full Control” Click on ok

  5. I tried this fix and I can only get to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/INSTALLER... there is no COMPONENTS folder within the INSTALLER folder. The folders are named with long strings of letter/number combinations. Any help?

  6. Could you please tell me how to do it in windows 8? there is no 'Advanced' option in right click menu of components
