Unable to search e mails,contacts,notes , calendar items in Outlook 2003,Outlook 2007,Outlook 2010

Resolution

The Outlook search function can be enabled to provide this feature.

To do this, disable Outlook personal folders from the Windows search Index. There are two methods of doing this:

Method 1:

In Outlook

1. Go to Tools->instant search->search options->uncheck personal folders, then restart Outlook

Method 2 (this will completely disable Outlook data from being searched, you may have to edit the registry to re-enable it)

1. Using REGEDIT, navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Search\Preferences

2. Right click, add New->DWORD

3. Name the new key PreventIndexingOutlook

4. Modify this key and set the value data as 1

5. Close the registry editor then restart Outlook

Please note that Outlook->Tools->Instant search will now do nothing (no dialog)

NOTE :This will start using the Windows Search (Start search) will not search Outlook data
