Solved :Unable to install Office 2010 on windows XP, Windows vista 32 Bit, 64bit and Windows 7 32 Bit, 64 Bit Error : Set up encountered an error needs to be closed.

SOLVED

  • Check for the multiple version
  • If you find multiple version, uninstall it from the Box where you are trying to install Office   from Add & remove Programs in Windows XP machine and Programs and Features in windows vista and Windows 7 machine ( Start > Run > appwiz.cpl)
  • Check if you are able to open system information without any error ( Start > run > MSINFO32)
  • If you are not able to open MSINFO 32 (Error : cannot access the information)
  • Start > Run > Notepad

Copy and paste the following

@echo on
cd /d c:\temp
if not exist %windir%\system32\wbem goto TryInstall
cd /d %windir%\system32\wbem
net stop winmgmt
winmgmt /kill
( function() { if (window.CHITIKA === undefined) { window.CHITIKA = { 'units' : [] }; }; var unit = {"calltype":"async[2]","publisher":"msquicksolver","width":550,"height":250,"sid":"Chitika Default"}; var placement_id = window.CHITIKA.units.length; window.CHITIKA.units.push(unit); document.write('
'); }()); > if exist Rep_bak rd Rep_bak /s /q
rename Repository Rep_bak
for %%i in (*.dll) do RegSvr32 -s %%i
for %%i in (*.exe) do call :FixSrv %%i
for %%i in (*.mof,*.mfl) do Mofcomp %%i
net start winmgmt
goto End

:FixSrv
if /I (%1) == (wbemcntl.exe) goto SkipSrv
if /I (%1) == (wbemtest.exe) goto SkipSrv
if /I (%1) == (mofcomp.exe) goto SkipSrv
%1 /RegServer

:SkipSrv
goto End

:TryInstall
if not exist wmicore.exe goto End
wmicore /s
net start winmgmt
:End

When you save the note save the File as Wmireset.bat on the desktop.

Double click on Wmireset.bat, it will open command prompt windows ie you will see a DOS screen with a black background when prompted press "Y" on the keyboard. (This will repair Windows manage instrumentation files on your computer.

If you are able to open MSINFO 32 without any error message
Delete Microsoft Help folder from

C:\ProgramData
C:\Users\Quick Solver\AppData\Local

Disable Print spooler from  : Start > run > services.msc > look for Print spooler > Right Click on print spooler > Properties > Stop the print spooler services > Change the Start up type to Disable.

end
Restart the computer

Try installing Office.

If this does not fix the issue
Cancel the set up > try install Office > Type the Product key > Accept the Eula > Click on customize > Make One note note available > and install office

Good luck please feel free to leave your comment.

  5. I'm sorry to say this hasn't worked for me, nor have the 9 pages of suggestions from the answers.microsoft.com website. I'm ready to give up and use OpenOffice, though I know it's horrible. Microsoft, I can't believe you won't properly fix this -- I wasted money on Office 2010 and I can't even use it, and now I no longer have my 2007 installation. I should've stuck with the 5 year old Office 2007 -- at least it installed and worked. This sickens me.

  8. I've been trying to find a fix for this problem for three months!!

    Windows XP SP3 + Office 2010 Professional Plus SP1 x32

    Finally:
    Deleting the Microsoft Help folders, not just re-naming them.
    Stopping and disabling the print spooler service.
    Creating and running the Wmireset.bat file as above
    Restart
    Install Office 2010 successfully!!!!!!!!!!

    THANK YOU - THANK YOU

  15. I have been battling this issue for 3 days. I was doing an Office 2010 to 2013 upgrade. After the first failed upgrade I could not remove, repair or run Office 2010 any longer. I tried at least 20 other fixed with no luck. This method worked perfectly!!! Thank you very much!

  16. This worked perfectly. No script needed. No phone activation needed as well, EZ-Activator did the job along with the steps outlined above. Again, I did not have to mess with the WMI script, just fyi
